Honoring the Past, Embracing the Horizon
There comes a time when an artist’s work begins to point toward something new. For me, that time is now.
My earlier collections gave me the freedom to explore various mediums and various subject matter, and the stories hidden in everyday objects. It taught me to trust my imagination, embrace curiosity, and let my paintings speak with personality. I carry those lessons forward with gratitude.
Today, my work is evolving toward a more personal conversation with the place I call home: the Nebraska Sandhills.
Somewhere Only We Know marks a new chapter in my journey of contemporary open impressionism. With a 26 year background in Roman mosaics, I bring an appreciation for the relationship between individual elements and the greater composition—a foundation that continues to inform how I approach color, texture, movement, and not so subtle details of light.
My focus now is the ever-changing character of the landscape: the warmth of sunrise, the glow of golden hour, the quiet drama of a moody sunset, and the moonlight settling over rolling hills. Through expressive brushwork and softened realism, I seek to capture not simply what a place looks like, but how it makes us feel as we pause to watch the sunrise and set.
The Nebraska Sandhills are never quite the same twice. Their light shifts, their seasons turn, and familiar horizons reveal something new each day. I want my paintings to leave room for those personal connections—to evoke a remembered place, a fleeting moment, or a feeling that needs no explanation.
Somewhere Only We Know isn't necessarily a place on a map. It's the place we carry within us: familiar, personal, and uniquely our own. This evolution isn't about leaving the past behind. It's about honoring the experiences that brought me here while embracing the possibilities ahead.
Same artist. A new horizon.
Welcome to Somewhere Only We Know.
